You may direct a check to an address, however the check is delivered to a alternate address, this is due to a notice of Change of address through USPS. Please see below:
USPS
- Starting in 2021 USPS released a 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability.
- Two to three postage increases per year since 2021, last increase was on 7/14/24.
- Utilizing the NCOA (Notice of Change of Address) data and sorting mail reduces the postage on checks.
-
If the check printers don’t perform NCOA checks then USPS will perform a NCOA lookup themselves.
- The link you can confirm an address that is listed under USPS is: https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress
Process of Checks mailed from Viewpost:
- Print ready PDF files are generated and transmitted to our check printers.
- Our check printers scan the payee address against NCOA(Notice of Change of Address) services, USPS NCOALink.
-
If a match is found the payee address is changed to the NCOA address on file.
- Example of this is where the vendor supplied a change of address or forward address with USPS.
- If no match is found the original address is used.
- Physical checks and pages are printed out with barcodes.
- Checks and pages run through an inserter machine that stuffs them into #10 envelope.
- Envelopes are then sorted based on destination address.
- Sorted envelopes are then handed off to USPS to deliver to your vendor.
After the checks are mailed there are possibilities of checks returning back to the customer.
You will normally see a yellow sticker on the letter advising the return reasons.
- Examples: Unable to forward, Vendor moved, Refused, Return to Sender, Vacant, No mail receptacle
