When a process gets shut down abnormally, entries in the file are not always cleared as they should be. Usually that doesn't cause problems but it can in certain circumstances.
When you encounter this issue we recommend you do the following:
- Open C:\ProgramData\INTUIT\QuickBooks\QBINSTANCEFINDER.INI file
- Clear all entries in the file (there shouldn’t be any since QB is closed).
- This can be done by opening the file in notepad and deleting all the rows except the top one containing only “[QBINSTANCEFINDER]”
